The girls’ varsity volleyball team has received multiple recognitions from Syracuse.com following an outstanding season. Three players—Addison Jones, Layla Rice, and Caleigh Smith—have been named All-CNY Small School All-Stars. Their impressive statistics are matched by their dedication to the sport, which has rightfully earned them these All-Star titles.

Sophomore middle hitter Caleigh Smith ended the season with 128 kills and 28 aces. She believes that while talent is important, hard work is what truly counts. “Dedication and consistency are more effective for success,” she emphasizes. This commitment is what led to her All-Star nomination.

Junior outside hitter Layla Rice contributed significantly with 349 kills and 47 aces during the season. Her motivation comes from her coaches and teammates, who always push her to excel. She knows that in order to be the best version of herself on the court, she must face any obstacle that comes her way, then comes the fun of the game.

Senior setter, Addison Jones, finished her high school career with over 800 assists, 18 kills, and 67 aces. She plans to transition into college volleyball after graduation. Jones credits much of her success to her sister. “My sister was a huge inspiration to me, as she is also a setter. She has inspired me to always work extremely hard while remaining humble, and to always give my best effort every day to my teammates and sport” she shares. Addison Jones has also been nominated for syracuse.com's small school girls’ volleyball Player of the Year. While she appreciates the accolades, she will cherish the memories of locker room dances and bus rides with her teammates the most.

Additionally, girls' volleyball coach, Terry McKane, has been named Class C Co-Coach of the Year. With 24 seasons of coaching experience, over 400 career wins, and multiple Section 3 Championship titles, McKane has built a successful program at Mount Markham, inspiring his athletes to perform at their best.
